Oh dear me.

What will I ever do with myself?

I'm brilliant at some things but sometimes I am utterly useless.

This is one thing I am useless at, keeping up to date.

My 2012 diary stopped being used on 30th January, this blog has lain in ruin since i finished college.

I'm sorry.

I promise to behave from now on, i'll post something. i'll be good.

an awesome illsutarted update AKA the week from Satan himself.

An awesome illsutarted update AKA the week from Satan himself.
I know I'm posting late but it's tough to find time!! D:

I dropped both my travel passes and when i realised half way down the corridor they'd already been stolen. Someone also took £20 out my coat pocket I needed to pay for prints for my final show.
I got to class and my USB had corrupted, I checked my backup, that was also corrupted. I got home to realise my laptop was self destructing.
My ex best friend/ arch enemy stood in front of the bus i need to catch home and talked about the fact 'she hadn't changed'...(she totally has)
Luckily I have this waiting for me at the end of each day ^_^

COLLEGE
Still got too much work and not enough time. I just want to sleep all the time and when I'm awake I want to other things, i haven't been able to do my own work for 2 years!!
The final show is soon.
I'll post pictures and show you all :D

6 weeks left!

Only 6 weeks of my project left then it's assessment. We'd been told 4 weeks and then 12 weeks so it's been a little confusing.
Lucky for me I'd timetabled my project to be done in 4 weeks so now i have an extra week :D
I'd thought I'd post my to-do list up here so that whenever I'm distracted on here I'll see it.
You'll see it get crossed off every day or so :D
Behold my cunning plan.
1. Make a draft book for Jon's mom to take into her primary school.
2. Make changes according to child feedback.
3. Look into pop up features or lift the flap.
4. Start InDesign sheets.
5. Contact printers.
6. Look into 2nd storyline for reverse side of the book.

This is nothing compared to what I'm actually doing as I'm having to improve every project I've ever done :S
I guess it's bedtime at 6am again.
Red Terror out.

Inside my Project

Inside my sketchbook
The Life and Times of the Infamous Red Terror
This sketchbook is for my Final Major Project. I will be creating a character based on myself as a toddler who will go on adventures and get into trouble. The stories are meant as Cautionary Tales and will be a series.

Research.

Dictionary defintions of the word 'Personal'

The first five google images when you type in 'Childhood Memories'

The contents of the envelope of memories: My baby photos.

The original 'Cautionary Tales'

Tony Ross and Maurice Sendak

Eric Carle and the beginning of character development
Development.

17 pages of research. This research has actually really helped me in terms of style, even though I chose to use my own style in the end. I used my own style because all three of the artists I chose to research had their own unique style.
Also because nothing comes more easily than drawing in your own style and I wanted these drawings to just flow out of my pen.

The first attempt. I didn't like the eyes or hair.

Version 2 with new eyes and hair.

I took inspiration for the eyes from Disney looking at many of the Disney Artist's styles.

Proportion research and emotion chart.

Version Three. The head was too small.

Action poses

I asked people in my class their opinions using these.

Version Four: I hope the last.
Production.

The Red Terror and The Grasshopper

One day the Red Terror was playing with her set of plastic insects: a beetle, a snail, a spider, an ant, a slug, a wasp, a ladybird and a grasshopper. The grasshopper was her favorite. She loved everything about it.
She also loved making shadows on the wall with the lamp. Suddenly she had an idea. Use the grasshopper to make a scary shadow and frighten mommy.
She balanced the grasshopper on the carefully and ran out of the room.
MOMMY! MOMMY! THERE'S A MONSTER!
She yelled at her mommy. When she ran into the front room there was a horrible smell and the shadow she'd made before had vanished.
Her grasshopper had turned into a horrible green gloop smoking on top of the lamp. She lifted up her grasshopper quickly leaving sticky slime trails on the lamp. Its legs had dissolved and melted. It burnt her hand.
She screamed and dropped the grasshopper onto the floor. Mommy picked up the grasshopper and put it into the sink to cool down.
The Red Terror was very upset that her toy was ruined and she would never put her toys onto the lamp again.

A first draft storyboard

Images from the storyboard around the text.

Mixed media experimentation for the imagination scene.

A draft book showing the layout of images & text on the pages.

The life and times of the Infamous Red Terror

I'm currently in my final year of an Art and Design course.

We're focusing now on our Final Major Project, the FMP. The FMP ends with the Final Show where we will exhibit our work.
Our lecturers are only here to organise the Final Show and give us advice on our work. The brief's have to written ourselves, we make all the decisions.
My theme is based on Childhood Memories but more importantly the phrase

         "The Idealised World Of Childhood."

I've decided to create a series of illustrated children's books with my younger self as the main character where I get up to mischief. I always get what I deserve in the end and the aim for the books to act as a Cautionary Tale to help children learn consequences of their actions and keep them safe.

The title of these books are based on my childhood nickname:

The Life And Times Of The Infamous Red Terror

Prepare for the Red Terror...
